Nearly $10,000 awarded to fifteen incoming freshmen of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
SAINT PAUL, Minn., August 1, 2007 – FarmHouse Fraternity at the University of Minnesota announced today the winners of the 2007 FarmHouse Fraternity Scholarship.
For the 2007-2008 academic year, FarmHouse Fraternity received 37 applications from students across the states of Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin and even as far as Texas. Eligible students must be planning to attend the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities campus, male and have above a 3.5 high school grade point average. Selection criteria included academic performance, leadership achievement, athletic involvement and an interview with the scholarship committee. After two weekends of interviews, the committee selected 15 recipients to receive nearly $10,000 to support their academic pursuits.
FarmHouse Fraternity is pleased to award three $1,000 scholarships to the following students:
- Tyler Josephson, Redwood Falls, MN
- Nicolas O’Shea, Blaine, MN
- Michael Von Fange, Saint Paul, MN
two $750 scholarships to:
- Jeremy Grate, Sioux Falls, SD
- Matthew Pearson, Grove City, MN
and ten $500 awards to the following finalists:
- Justin Brown, Lanesboro, MN
- Daniel Helvig, Truman, MN
- Nathan Heinze, Lake Crystal, MN
- Jeff Hunt, Kimball, MN
- Ian Larson, Redwood Falls, MN
- Michael Lewis, Lewisville, MN
- Jack Meyers, Mequon, WI
- Andrew Otto, Princeton, WI
- Pierre Tawfik, Inver Grove Heights, MN
- John Verly, Marshall, MN
All 15 scholars have been invited to attend the FarmHouse Fraternity Annual Awards Banquet on August 18, 2007 where they will be presented with their award, recognized for their accomplishments and have the opportunity to hear from the banquet's keynote speaker.

FarmHouse Fraternity is an international social fraternity founded in 1905 at the University of Missouri. True to the FarmHouse motto "Builder of Men", the fraternity seeks to build men with a fourfold development by encouraging growth in the Intellectual, Physical, Social/Moral and Spiritual aspects of their lives. FarmHouse’s chapters are typically within the top 20% of Greek chapters' average GPA on their respective campuses, the organization is a leader in alcohol-free housing, never having a policy that allowed alcohol in chapter facilities, and FarmHouse has strong ties to both 4-H and the National FFA Organization. Today the fraternity has over thirty chapters across the United States and Canada. The Minnesota Chapter was the 8th chapter, founded in 1931.
