Dear Future Golden Gopher,
The men of the Minnesota Chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity would like to inform you of the availability of a scholarship for a male high school senior who is planning to attend the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. This scholarship is open to incoming male freshmen of all majors. There will be at least three $1,000 scholarships awarded next fall. The scholarships are awarded based on the individual’s quality of Academic Achievement, Leadership Experience, Athletic Involvement and Career Motivation, not their likelihood to join a fraternity.
The application process is a simple two-step process. The applicant must first fill out the enclosed application. It is encouraged to retype the application; it can also be downloaded online at www.mnfarmhouse.org. When finished, mail the application to:

The Scholarship Application's Final Deadline for all Scholarships is March 20, 2010. The second step in the application process is to participate in a personal interview with our scholarship committee at FarmHouse. We have designated April 9th and 10th as our scholarship weekend as the primary date to conduct the interviews; however this is not the only opportunity. We also provide an open house and an opportunity to interview during the Minnesota FFA State Convention, or for the individual to set up a personal interview at their convenience.
We would also like to inform you of the history and ideals, which FarmHouse is built upon. FarmHouse is an international agricultural fraternity with 30 chapters in the United States and Canada. The first chapter was formed in 1905 and the Minnesota Chapter was the eighth chapter, founded in 1931. The FarmHouse motto is “Builder of Men” and we strive to build the whole man in four ways: Intellectually, Spiritually, Socially/Morally and Physically. The Men of the Minnesota Chapter are identified as the leaders on campus in studies, athletics, leadership involvement and extra curricular activities. FarmHouse Fraternity has strong ties to both the FFA and 4-H, in fact ten of the last eleven state officers who are in a Fraternity are members of FarmHouse. We are a Dry House, meaning we are an alcohol free fraternity which provides a unique environment for young men to develop their leadership and career success. We offer the experience of a century of building men with strong values.
We view the scholarship weekend and interview process as an excellent way of evaluating each applicant as well as giving each applicant a chance to evaluate us. We plan to take all the applicants to dinner on Friday night and out for a fun night of Nascar simulation driving. We want all the applicants to have an enjoyable experience, meet the other applicants, and perhaps establish some friendships that will carry on to next fall and beyond. The interviews will be conducted Saturday early afternoon; later in the day there will also be tours of campus available for the applicants and their families. We also invite all the applicants to stay the night at FarmHouse on Friday.
If you or any of the interested applicants have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at cell:(507).440.7558 FarmHouse:(651) 646-3196 or by email at shee0149@umn.edu or Taylor Nordstrom at (507) 236-6293, nords134@umn.edu. Again, this letter and the application are both available on our website online at www.mnfarmhouse.org
Good luck in the following months as you prepare for college.
Sincerely,
Michael Sheely
